A Swedish Airborne Early Warning System Based on the Ericsson ERIEYE Radar

Ericsson Microwave Systems AB is introducing an Airborne Early Warning system on the international market. The radar can be installed on aircraft of different types and sizes according to the demands of the application and the customer's preferences. The Swedish Armed Forces have placed an order for six Ericsson AEW systems. In this case, the radar will be installed on the Saab 340 aircraft. The authors describe the Swedish system solution - based on a fixed phase-array antenna carried by a small turbo-prop aircraft - and the performance of the ERIEYE radar, which compares favourably with that of larger and more expensive AEW systems.
