The claim that our contemporary appetite for disposable goods constitutes a serious environmental problem, and is symptomatic of a significant human failure, seems prima facie reasonable. But what sort of failure does it involve? While it would be possible to attack the problem via political and ethical arguments, Greg Kennedy argues that its roots go deeper. Ultimately, they concern nothing less than a failure of modern humanity to be authentically human.
