Jodey Castricano's edited collection, Animal Subjects: An Ethical Reader in a Posthuman World, is an interesting read. It consists of fourteen previously unpublished essays , which make use of a wide variety of meta-theoretical approaches (thus, some are blatantly 'postmodern', whilst some are unashamedly analytical). The common thread in all is the search for non-anthropocentric ways of relating to animals. Some of the essays make this search explicit, whilst some merely map out historical roots for current understandings concerning non-human animals.
