Follow-Up-Jackson Announces EPA Commitment to Monitoring Air Toxics Near Schools

In a follow-up to an item in our last issue about a study in USA Today that documented the impact of industrial pollution on the air outside schools across the nation, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has made good on a pledge to "mobilize agency efforts within 30 days of her confirmation." On March 2, Jackson announced a new initiative to further measure levels of toxic air pollution near many schools across the country. In partnership with states, the agency will prioritize and monitor schools for more extensive air quality analysis, looking closely at schools located near large industries and in urban areas.
