Critical ecologies: the Frankfurt School and contemporary environmental crises

As the global ecological situation progressively deteriorates, social scientists and philosophers are increasingly turning their attention to this topic. In this volume, a number of political theorists utilise the insights of the classic Frankfurt School authors to draw out the implications of their thought for the global ecological crisis. In essence, this is an exegesis of classical Frankfurt School texts with the aim of developing their ecological implications. Through a deep and critical reading of Marcuse, Adorno, Horkheimer, and Benjamin, the book aims at the classical objective of critical theory, which is 'the self-clarification of the struggles and wishes of the age' (p. 3).
