摘要

An important concern of environmentalism from its very inception has been environmentalism itself. An ongoing conversation has taken place among green thinkers about the nature of their endeavours, a debate that has run parallel to the very evolution of green thinking. In this regard, notwithstanding the inherent diversity of an ever-growing field of study and despite the succession of different waves of environmentalism, a permanent issue has been that of defining what radical ecology is - or should be. To some, only radical versions of environmentalism are pure, whereas more moderate or liberal friendly ones represent deviations from the green ideal. Be that as it may, reflecting on radical environmentalism is as important as it has ever been, if only because mainstream and radical strands inform each other and, in their co-evolution, shape the future of green thought.
