The wrong rules for the right energy: the WTO SCM Agreement and subsidies for renewable energy

Due to changes in both our environment and the marketplace, the time has come to re-examine the current boundaries dealing with government support in the multilateral trading system. The potential for massive economic gains in the green energy sector has made subsidies aimed at ameliorating anthropogenic climate change vastly more contentious. This has been borne out by three recent cases, 'Canada - renewables', 'Canada -feed-in tariff' and 'China - wind turbines', which have entered the WTO dispute resolution process.
