Low cost processing power and miniaturisation have changed the entertainment and communications industries, leading to new opportunities in many other fields. All high-value products are candidates for the incorporation of data processing devices, for the purposes of test and diagnosis. For example, in quality cars, a GPS system may add location, mapping and traffic information to the car performance information, which is now available. The enormous improvement in car performance, which has been experienced by motorists over recent years, is largely due to data collection and life cycle analysis.
