One quarter of food packaging will use nanotechnology, claims Friends of the Earth Europe

In the next decade, some 25 per cent of all food packaging will use nanotechnology, according to a new report from Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE). The study highlights edible nano coatings which could be used on cheese, meats, fruit and vegetables as well as bakery and fast food: "They could provide a barrier to moisture and gas exchange, act as a vehicle to deliver colours, flavours, antioxidants, enzymes and anti browning agents and could also increase the shelf life."
