Draft law to set up GM farming zones in Poland

The Polish government has tabled a draft law on genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which will allow arable farmers to create zones to grow them.rnThe proposed legislation aims to harmonise Polish law with EU legislation which allows certain GM crops to be cultivated. If passed, the bill will replace legislation that was agreed by parliament in 2001, AgraFood East Europe reports.rnUnder the proposals, farmers who wish to grow GMOs will have their land assessed in terms of the impact it could have on the local environment. Other land owners in the vicinity will also have to agree before farmers can go ahead and cultivate GMOs on their land.
