Lobby register must be overhauled, say experts

The much vaunted lobby register, launched two years ago by the European Commission following pressure from the European Parliament from 2002, is not working. That was the message of a group of experts and campaign groups this week, when launching a new book demanding greater transparency in the EU, and particularly in Brussels.rnThe book is launched as Maros Sefcovic, the new Commissioner in charge of transparency and ethics, is about to start negotiating with the Parliament on creating a joint lobby register. Earlier this year Sefcovic said that he would reform the Commission's conflict of interest rules.
