A British MP has called for an "urgent" debate on plastic packaging recycling as the UK is a long way from achieving its recycling targets. Speaking in the House of Commons on 12 July, Conservative MP Matthew Offord said the current targets offered little incentives for local authorities to improve plastic packaging collections. The new UK. targets that will come into effect next year require the amount of plastic packaging waste being recycled to increase from 37 per cent in 2013 to 48 per cent in 2017 at a rate of 5 per cent a year.
