Russia faces serious landfill issues, says World Bank report

The Russian government must act urgently to deal with the fact that as the country becomes richer, people throw more away - and at least 95 per cent of Russia's domestic waste ends up in landfills,according to a recent report by the World Bank's International Finance Corporation (IFC).The report, published at the end of last month, warns that landfills are mushrooming while illegal dumping sites have sprung up across the country causing serious environmental damage to forests and farmland.
