Funding to renovate buildings unused, regrets Commissioner

European Energy Commissioner Giinther Oettinger has slammed member states for not using "to its full extent" the "impressive" amount of funding available for improving the energy efficiency of buildings.Speaking at the EU Sustainable Energy Week's opening ceremony last month in Brussels, Oettinger said the bloc's next budget should focus more on the energy efficient renovation of buildings. He warned member states that now that the energy efficiency directive has been adopted, there would be no way of getting around the new compulsory measures.
