UAE steps up efforts to make plastic bags biodegradable

Dubai's Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) has demanded manufacturers and suppliers of plastic bags in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to register their bio-degradable products with the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (Ecas). The idea behind this is that all plastic bags in the UAE should be phased out by 2013 and replaced by biodegradable bags.
