Five out of seven European carmakers will meet their emissions cutting targets for carbon dioxide by the 2021 deadline if they progress as they have been doing since the fuel consumption law was introduced in 2008, green transport group Transport & Environment (T&E) said last week in revealing its latest cars and CO_2 report. The EU's first compulsory rules on carbon emissions require car manufacturers to cut their average car emissions to a maximum of 130g CO_2 per km by 2015, and 95g by 2021. In its 9th edition, this report from T&E monitors the annual progress made by vehicle manufacturers to reduce fuel consumption and CO_2 emissions of new cars.
