State Proposes Targets for Urban Planners To Help Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Taking the first step toward implementing the state's smart growth law, the Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act of 2008 (S.B. 375), the California Air Resources Board Aug. 9 proposed greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for 18 urban planning organizations.rnThe report proposes emissions reduction goals for 2020 and 2035, which city and regional planners can use to develop more compact neighborhoods that are less dependent on single-occupant vehicles.
