USDA Trying to Bolster Manufacturing Through Approval of Biobased Products

The Agriculture Department is trying to bolster the manufacturing industry by increasing the number of biobased products available to federal agencies, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Sept. 25. USDA has increased the number of "biopreferred" products-or biobased products approved by USDA for purchase by federal agencies-from 7,000 to 9,300, Vilsack said. USDA's goal is to make 18,000 biobased products, including cleaners, solvent, and clothing, available to federal agencies for purchase, he said.
