Obama Budget Supports Climate Change, Energy Research; Most Science Funding Falls

The administration's fiscal year 2014 appropriations request continues to support clean energy research and studies to help society adapt to and mitigate climate change, according to a budget analysis presented May 2 by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The Department of Energy's energy research programs would increase about 45 percent from the levels that AAAS estimates the department got in fiscal 2013, Matt Hourihan, director of AAAS's research and development budget and policy program, during the association's annual Science and Technology Forum.
