31 Lawmakers Ask BOEM to Reanalyze Risks Posed by Seismic Surveys in Atlantic

Thirty-one members of Congress sent a letter to an Interior Department official Dec. 10 seeking to block seismic surveys by oil and natural gas companies off the Atlantic Coast. The department's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management should retract the record of decision on an environmental review of possible seismic testing in the Atlantic and revise it based on studies that focus on negative impacts from seismic work, the letter said. The letter was addressed to BOEM Director Abigail Ross Hopper and signed by both Republicans and Democrats, with Reps. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.) taking the lead.
