Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) has requested that a review by state officials of the Flint, Mich., drinking water crisis be halted in response to concerns from federal and state prosecutors. The review and a separate administrative investigation that already has been completed could hinder federal and state criminal investigations due to certain legal precedent, letters Snyder's office received from the Michigan attorney general's office and the U.S. attorney's office said. For example, U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said that if statements during the administrative investigation were made by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality employees who were compelled to answer questions, the statements couldn't be used at trial, and prosecutors would have to establish that these statements didn't taint their case.
