Massachusetts Clean Energy Bill Dies, But New Bill to Be Drafted

Massachusetts lawmakers promised to immediately re-introduce a zero-carbon-by-2050 bill aftertheir first attempt died Thursday under Gov. Charlie Baker’s veto.The bill (S. 2995) would have nearly doubled the amount of offshore wind power for the state, andincluded incentives for solar energy installations and electric vehicles, in an effort to cut the state’sreliance on carbon-producing fossil fuels. Baker (R) backs the 2050 goal but differed with someprovisions of the bill, including the short-term milestones, he said in a veto statement Thursday.
