Carbon emissions

UK carbon emissions from installations covered by the EU emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) rose in 2010 after plunging by 12.5% in 2009 in the teeth of the recession. The rise in 2010 reflects recovery in economic activity but also other factors including very cold weather early in the year, which boosted electricity demand. Another was lower availability of nucleai power stations, which increased the carbon intensity of grid electricity (see page 18).
