This is the first volume in Sage's Advances in Geographic Information Science and Technology series. According to the authors' preface its origins lie in a workshop held in the summer of 2008 to disseminate the Eigenvector Spatial Filtering (ESF) methodology. However, as with many new techniques, dissemination also requires software tools and accessible texts. To this end, in the words of the authors: "… this book includes comparisons between geostatistics, spatial autoregression, and ESF analyses" (p.ⅹⅳ).
