Population and society

摘要

Most book reviews move through the contents of a book and end with a careful summation of the text and a recommendation. Here, I am going to turn convention on its head and provide the conclusion first: this is an excellent volume. It is ideally suited as an introductory text on population (and related) studies and I have adopted it as a key text for a first year module on which I teach. Crucially, what the authors have done is put together a book about population studies that manages to capture both their interest and excitement for the topic. There is a clear depth in the detail provided despite the introductory nature of the text.
