EPA's top air official is seeking new advice from the agency's clean air advisers on how to promote energy efficiency in upcoming federal best available control technology (BACT) permit requirements for greenhouse gases (GHGs), including use of a program to exempt facilities using innovative technologies from BACT for several years.rnThe official, Regina McCarthy, made the request in an April 9 letter to the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee's (CAAAC's) climate change work group. The letter hails the work group's first report on the issue, released in February, which discussed several approaches to addressing GHGs in permits, including fuel switching and efficiency.
