Critics Of EPA Methane NSPS Rollback Warn Of Air Pollution Increases

Environmental groups and other critics of EPA's proposal to rescind methane controls for new oil and gas facilities — a step that precludes controls on existing sources — are highlighting environmental damage from the rollback they argue would be much higher than the agency's own estimates. The arguments are surfacing at an Oct. 17 public hearing in Dallas on EPA's Aug. 29 proposal to scrap direct methane requirements in the 2016 new source performance standards (NSPS) and instead rely on controls of smog-forming pollutants for upstream sources.
