National Office building nears completion

Redevelopment of the National Office building, Engi-neering House, at 11 National Circuit in Canberra has proved to be a protracted affair. Substantial delays have occurred and I want to update you on the outcomes. The former deputy chief executive, Bill Crews wrote an article on the background to the building redevelopment in the August 2001 issue of Engineers Australia. He explained that the original proposal to redevelop the building envisioned Engineers Australia having refurbished office space of 1805m~2. Council resolved that the Institution should own a controlling interest of the titles in its own building - namely 51% - and this implied taking ownership of another 792m~2 at a total cost of $2.45 million, including the much needed refurbishment of the existing lower two floors.
