摘要

The hard skills of project management are well recorded and relatively easy to learn. They include planning, cost management, risk assessment, resource management etc. However, I have found that leading a project is not a "paint by numbers exercise". People skills or often-called soft skills are essential for a project's success. A project with a poor leader does not create a highly effective project team working at optimum levels from the start. Team members, as shown in a recent international survey (PMI Network January 2005), regard the team's ability to get along as a group higher than the team members' technical skills or experience (see chart on page 9).
