Using its patented ultracmos (ultra complementary metal oxide semiconductor) technology, Sapphicon (formerly Peregrine) Semiconductor Australia has mastered the technique of processing ultrathin silicon circuitry on an insulating dielectric sapphire substrate and opened a manufacturing facility in Sydney.rnThe facility completes the capability of the Australian industry to design and manufacture high-speed communication systems. Sapphicon is the only commercial semiconductor manufacturer in Australia.rnThe $200 million production plant, which operates continuously, features paperless manufacturing and extensive statistical process control. It is operated by a team of 83 employees, more than half of whom are engineers.
