A hydrogen-powered racing car was launched in Melbourne last month by RMIT University at the International Conference on Sustainable Automotive Technologies.rnPowered by a two-cylinder in-line Rotax motorcycle engine converted to run on hydrogen, the car is expected to reach speeds of up to 170km/h next year when it attempts to enter the Guinness World Records as the world's fastest hydrogen-powered racer.rnThe car's hydrogen racing car chassis and body is a custom-designed tubular steel spaceframe. It has composite body panels, A-arm pushrod suspension with bell cranks and a 2900mm wheelbase. It was designed and manufactured by students from the university's bachelor of mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and vocational mechanical engineering programs.
