Counting engineers in transport

A serious impediment to analysing the structure of engineering employment in Australia has been access to suitable statistics and the flexibility to focus statistics on specific issues. The necessary statistical databases are available from the Census undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and contain a wealth of information, but until recently, the only means of accessing these statistics was to engage the ABS to undertake pre-designed consultancy projects. This approach is resource intensive, slow and work was limited to what could be afforded.
