New city to be model for sustainability

Mindful of the international perception that the United Arab Emirates is profligate with its energy consumption, the country has been working on countering that image by promoting more energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy forms. Besides conferences on alternative energy forms and some new high rise buildings planned in accordance with guidelines for environmental sustainability, the biggest and most ambitious investment in this area is the Masdar City project in Abu Dhabi. The Masdar Initiative is driven by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mubadala Development Company.
