Offshore applications for temporary 457 working visas fell by 51% between June 2008 and June 2009, while applications made in Australia by those wishing to extend their stay or change employers were down 35%, the secretary of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Andrew Metcalfe told the Australian and New Zealand School of Government last month.
