University receives boost for solar cell research

German solar technology company Roth and Rau will set up a silicon solar cell production line at the University of New South Wales.rnThe pilot line will be the backbone of the university's $20 million Solar Industrial Research Facility (SIRF). The university received $5 million in federal funding through the Australian Solar Institute towards the establishment of the SIRF.rnIt will be an industrial-grade manufacturing facility that will enable the development of silicon solar cell technologies from laboratory processes to factory-ready industrial processes.
