Engineering and industrial heritage at risk

Each year the Australian Council of National Trusts (ACNT) produces a list of its top ten places at risk, highlighting a number of major issues currently threatening Australia's built, cultural and natural heritage.rnThe 2010 list was recently announced, with five engineering or industrial sites included. These sites are the Burnie Paper Mill (Tasmania), the Burra Monster Mine Reserve (Burra, South Australia), East Perth and South Fremantle powerstations (Western Australia), the Murtoa Stick Shed (Victoria) and World War II Catalina wrecks in Darwin Harbour (Northern Territory). Engineering heritage and industrial sites often do not receive the level of recognition in the community that historic buildings receive.
