COPENHAGEN SIDESHOWS MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN MAIN EVENT

The climate conference revealed that many cities and regional governments are already following their own carbon policies without global agreements and national direction. The first article in this cover story reports on some of the events at Copenhagen. The other articles look at more sustainable transport, the economics of renewable energy and geothermal energy development in Australia. While the climate conference in Copenhagen last December was unsuccessful in coming up with a legally binding international framework for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, it was nevertheless a showcase for the vast number of initiatives and activities that are already happening worldwide at the regional and local levels.
