Research helping to save the eyesight ofpeople in the rural and remote areasof Australia has won the e-Health Award at the 2011 national i Awards,the information and communicationstechnology (ICT) industry's peak awardsevent held in Melbourne last month.CSIRO's ICT experts won the award with Remote-i, an eye screening system that aims to circumvent the problem of specialists travelling to the bush or patients trekking to the nearest urban hub.The technology was built on earlier research by project leader Dr Yogesan Kanagasingam, which makes use of a camera called the EyeScan to capture images of a patients retina.
