NBN to offer video services

The National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) has announced it will be releasing a product which will allow video services such as Foxtel to be delivered directly to users via the NBN. The product, known as the NBN Co Multicast, is scheduled to be delivered as part of NBN Cos Product Release 2, which is expected to see a network release for testing towards the end of this year and a general release in mid-2012.Historically, the distribution of video content to consumers has been via broadcast technologies such as free-to-air television and satellite/cable television. However, by offering video capabilities in addition to its voice and broadband services, NBN Co aims to capitalise on the increasing usage of video content via the internet.
