It has been heralded as the future of design, engineering and construction. Engineers and architects alike have hailed it as an industry revolution. It has been mandated by governments across the globe. Yet in Australia, Building Information Modelling (BIM) is only just finding main stream use within the engineering profession. More than a mere drafting tool, BIM is being utilised for construction, costing, facilities management and demolition. According to the field's experts, it is only a matter of time before the Australian government follows the lead of its US, UK and Singapore counterparts, and incorporates BIM into its asset design and maintenance protocol.
