EA event marks Titanic anniversary

To mark the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the Sydney Division of Engineers Australia last month hosted a half-day seminar to examine the role engineers played in the ship's design and explore the factors which led to its demise. The seminar, titled Learning from the Titanic, attracted about 50 engineers and technicians to the Division's Harricks Auditorium in Sydney, where a series of speakers from Engineers Australia and the College of Information, Telecommunication and Electronics Engineering (ITEE) presented on the engineering design behind the ship, its unique structural and mechani cal components, the on-board radio and telecommunications technology involved and the steps which could have been taken to prevent its sinking.
