Territory facilitates iron ore project

Australian iron ore exploration and development company Sherwin Iron has signed a project facilitation agreement with the Northern Territory government to open up the Roper River for the mining of iron ore. The Roper River project is situated around 475km southeast of Darwin. It is also around 120km east of the north-south Adelaide to Darwin rail line. The resource was initially discovered by BHP in the late 1950s and since 2010, extensive drilling by Sherwin Iron has increased the resource and identified an indicated 39.5Mt of high grade iron ore in one deposit. There is an estimated resource of 488Mt over several major deposits, including Hodgson Downs, Mount Fisher, Sherwin Creek, Mount Scott and Yumanji.
