摘要

An inquiry into infrastructure planning and procurement has been initiated by the deputy prime minister and minister for infrastructure, Warren Truss, to contribute to the debate on how to best meet the infrastructure needs of Australia. The terms of reference will also examine other initiatives that might lower the cost of planning approvals, reduce regulatory and other costs in competing for projects, and minimise delivery timeframes. Engineers Australia (EA) has lodged a submission to the inquiry that draws attention to the workforce costs of poor infrastructure planning and delivery. The responsibility for infrastructure planning lies with government, EA said, irrespective of which sector ultimately constructs and/or owns infrastructure assets.
