Engineering workforce study launched

The Australian Workplace and Productivity Agency's (AWPA, formerly Skills Australia) examination of the engineering workforce is now underway with a national submission process concluded and roundtable consultation sessions about to be rolled out across the country. The review follows the Senate inquiry into engineering skills shortages which concluded in 2012. While the last federal election ruled out a formal (Labor) government response to the Senate committee's recommendations, this AWPA inquiry is another opportunity for policymakers to address long standing issues that have resulted in the boom/ bust employment cycles seen across the engineering workforce in recent years, Engineers Australia (EA) said.
