摘要

In urban design projects there is currently strong demand to demystify the process of decision making so community members and stakeholders can understand the implications of the decisions being asked of them. No longer can planners and urban designers just go with their gut feeling in making decisions required of them, they need to provide sustainable, low carbon designs, sound evidence and a range of options for the community to decide on. In short, they need to make decisions based on evidence. The integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs allowed urban designers to drive efficiencies and sustainability outcomes. While designers could forecast efficiencies, due to a lack of industry data, there was no ability to test those forecasts against industry norms or benchmarks or look at a suburb or precinct as a whole.
