Petra Hansen: From testing to standards development

At school, Petra Hansen was good at maths and physics, and really liked that so had "this crazy idea I was going to do engineering." Hansen's current position as a senior electrical engineer with Nova Systems, and as the chair of the electromagnetic compatibility committee (TE3) for Standards Australia (SA), makes her high school dream of doing engineering not so crazy. At this year's Standards Australia awards, Hansen received the Meritorious Contribution Award for her work in international standardisation. She has represented Australia at the annual meetings of the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR), and been head of delegation since 2012. Hansen has been a member of a number of CISPR workgroups, and currently chairs SA's mirror committee for CISPR. The organisation is responsible for establishing the standards for measuring electromagnetic interference in almost any device imaginable.
