Now there is no excuse to be late for meet-ings because you were lost. If you are driving a car fitted with a fully integrated navigation system, every motorway, main road and small street can be programmed into your car: a complete A-Z of Britain and other countries too. Several such navigation systems are available for fitting to new cars, most notably the Carin system from Philips and TravelPilot from Blaupunkt (Bosch). All of them function by using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology. The system receives a signal from upto six satellites and then positions itself using the ABS sensors and data from an on-board compass. The system's computer determines the actual location of the car to within ten metres and compares its position with map data on a CD-ROM housed in a separate CD player.
