On the 50th anniversary of ENR's first list that ranked contractors, this year's Top 400 Contractors are reaping the bounty of a hot 2007 market but are worried about what 2009 will bring. The Top 400 generated $304.36 billion in revenue in 2007, up 15.8% from 2006. This contrasts with 1958, when only eight firms had domestic new contract awards above $100 million. Among contractors on both the 1958 and 2008 lists are: Bechtel, Turner Corp., Foster Wheeler, American Bridge, Fluor, Perini, Kiewit, Tarminal Construction and HRH (ENR 1/2/58 p. 21).
