The impact of the U.S. economic downturn has begun to show in the construction spending of large corporate owners. Construction spending by the ENR Top 425 Owners dropped 5.4% in 2009 to $154.77 billion from $163.64 billion in 2008, according to their filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Electric utilities increasingly are dominating the ENR Top 42 5 list, while owners serving consumer product demand are falling in the rankings.
