Opening in 2012, a new ballpark for the Florida Marlins is under construction in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, on the site of the former Orange Bowl. A distinguishing feature of the stadium will be its retractable roof-not because it's retractable but because of the massive site-cast track beams it will move on. The concrete shell is approximately 750,000 sq ft of cast-in-place elevated concrete decks and rakers that will support precast stadium. The concrete structure and roof track beams are expected to require 50,000 cu yds of concrete. Work is progressing in two shifts of about 350 workers. The track beams are scheduled for completion on April 30, 2010, for the start of the retractable-roof system. The stadium's concrete structure is scheduled for completion in July 2010.
